About WhatsUpCongress

WhatsUpCongress is a free, non-partisan civic transparency platform that gives every American direct access to how their government operates — where money goes, how lawmakers vote, and which programs can help them right now.

Our Mission

Democracy works best when citizens are informed. Yet the data that describes how our government functions — who votes for what, who donates to whom, where tax dollars go — is buried across dozens of government websites in formats that require expertise to interpret.

WhatsUpCongress was built to change that. We pull data directly from official U.S. government APIs and present it in plain language, accessible to anyone — whether you are a policy researcher, a first-generation voter, a journalist, or a parent trying to understand how a new bill might affect your family's healthcare coverage.

We are particularly focused on serving low-income Americans who are most directly affected by legislation and who have historically had the least access to tools that explain how government decisions impact their lives.
